SOLAR PV PANELS (PHOTO VOLTAIC SYSTEMS)

Why is such a System a Good Idea?

  • The electricity that is generated by your system you receive a Feed In Tariff  (FIT) income, whether you use the power or export it. See more on FIT at the Energy Saving Trust Website.
  • Electricity generated from PV solar panels is automatically used to power your appliances around the home so avoiding the cost of purchasing electricity from your supplier. All surplus can be exported to the National Grid. A PV system may benefit you all year round.
  • You will experience a reduction in your electricity bills and PV panels will also reduce the impact of rising electricity costs over the coming years.
  • Solar systems have no moving parts and are therefore silent in operation. They require very little maintenance.
  • When your solar system is supplied and fitted by our registered and accredited solar installers, you are investing in a highly reliable, quality product, that has a typical lifetime of 25 - 30 years.
  • By generating your own electricity from solar energy you will reduce your dependence on the commercial electricity providers.
Note:

Electricity generated for Solar energy in UK varies between approx 1,500 KWh in the South West of UK to 850KWh in Scotland. These figures relate to the power that could be generated per metre squared (m²) per year by a PV system. Most buildings in UK are suitable for solar electric power systems requiring 10 m² to 15 m². An indicative map is shown here.

UK households consume approx 8KWh to 10KWh per day on average. 1 KW (kilo watt = 1000 watts) consumed can be considered to be a single bar electric fire used for heating for 1 hour. 1KW per hour  (or Unit) is what we are charged for by the Energy Suppliers (e,g B Gas, EDF SSE etc)

Solar energy varies at different periods during a year. South facing roof aspect is important but not wholly essential.

Electricity requirements will vary depending on the size of each house and how energy-efficient the building and appliances are. A Solar PV system will be able to reduce electricity bills because the system will supply some or all of your power needs rather than the supplier of electricity. Where Solar PV systems connect to the National Grid system, they will automatically take electricity from the National Grid at times of low solar power generation -  at night primarily. The PV systems automatically switches between solar or supplier energy dependant on consumption and solar conditions during a 24 hour period.

CD Solar Microgeneration Certification Scheme (MCS) certificated

The Microgeneration Certification Scheme
The MCS Scheme gives consumers the guarantee that certificated microgeneration
products and the installers of those products have conformed to a rigorous set of standards.
To qualify for financial incentives such as Clean Energy Cash backs, both the microgeneration
product and the installer must carry the MCS mark

PLANNING PERMISSION

Permitted development rights In England and Scotland, changes to permitted development rights for renewable technologies introduced on 6th April 2008 and 12th March 2009 respectively, have lifted the requirements for planning permission for most domestic microgeneration technologies.

The General Permitted Development Order (GPDO), or the Town and Country Planning (General Permitted Development) (Domestic Microgeneration) (Scotland) Amendment Order 2009 grants rights to carry out certain limited forms of development on the home, without the need to apply for planning permission. The scope of the GPDO in England and the TCP (GPD) in Scotland now extends to the following technologies: View the Energy Savings Trust Website for specific info on Energy capture ssytems.

Always check with your local authority to find out if you require planning permission or not, the information on this page is for guidance only.

Ideally a Solar PV system should face between south east and south west, and be free of shade. For best performance they should be angled at 30 to 40 degrees  although you will still capture a reasonable level of sunlight at angles of 20 to 50 degrees.
